ANNOUNCING A NEW AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION

THE YORKSHIRE DALES: WHERE THE PAST MEETS THE PRESENT

A Celebration of the Yorkshire Dales in Photographs

The Garden Rooms at Tennants is delighted to be launching a new amateur photographic competition and exhibition celebrating the Yorkshire Dales. The free to enter competition culminates in a single winning photograph and the selection of 11 further photographs which will all appear in the 2018 Garden Rooms at Tennants calendar.

The proliferation of digital cameras and camera phones has resulted in a surge in interest in photography – with instant results. Modern technology allows the rapid sharing of images – sharing of our own view of the world.

However, the Yorkshire Dales is an area where the past is evident all around – from the traditional stone barns of Swaledale, to the atmospheric ruins of Bolton Abbey and the abandoned mining works that dot the hills. The physical past forms a backdrop to the modern lives of those who live in the Dales, and amateur photographers are invited to capture their own unique interpretation of The Yorkshire Dales: Where the Past Meets the Present.

The top 25 photographs submitted will be shortlisted by Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trusts’ Chief Executive David Sharrod and Alison Tennant, Director of Tennants and will be exhibited at The Garden Rooms at Tennants from 19th August – 17th September. During the exhibition, the public will have the chance to vote for their favourite photograph and the top 12 photographs will be included in the 2018 calendar.  The results will be announced on 11th September and the overall winner will receive £50 worth of photographic vouchers as their prize.

All shortlisted photographers will have the opportunity to sell their exhibited images, with 10% of proceeds donated to Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust. Chief Executive, David Sharrod says: “‘The Yorkshire Dales: Where the Past Meets the Present’ is a theme that’s close to our hearts as a charity that works to conserve, enhance and celebrate the unique heritage of the Dales as well as helping to ensure a healthy future for this special place. We’re delighted to be involved in The Garden Rooms at Tennants photographic competition and look forward to seeing the entries.”

All entries must be submitted by 5pm on 17th July, and the exhibition will run from 19th August – 17th September.
