Our Adventurers Evening brings together two contrasting environments for adventure – the land and the sea and will give you the chance to hear the exciting and very different stories of two of the country’s leading adventurers who have experienced some of the most inhospitable places on Earth.

Doug Scott CBE is one of the UK’s foremost mountaineers and in 1975 became the first Briton, alongside Dougal Haston, to stand on the summit of Everest.  In a career spanning more than 50 years, Doug has made 45 expeditions to the high mountains of Asia and scaled 40 peaks, half of which were climbed by a new route or for the first time Alpine Style.

Dan Howie is an extreme sportsman and motivational speaker from Northallerton who  took part in the 2013 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, a 3,000 mile rowing race starting in the Canary Islands and finishing in Antigua.

Dan and his rowing partner Will experienced some of the toughest conditions in the race history during their 53 day voyage. As well as raising £155,000 for their chosen three charities, they also won their category as the fastest pair to cross the Atlantic .

Dan shares his experiences at sea as well as the personal endurance required to accomplish such an amazing feat. With three shoulder operations in his recent past, Dan had never stepped foot aboard a boat nor had he any nautical experience prior to the race.  Dan has also cycled from London to Gibraltar and from Lands End to John O’Groats and will share his thoughts on his motivations and the highs and lows of extreme sports challenges.
