Country House Sale: Oak Carvings

Until the late the 18th Century, the predominant material used to make English furniture and architectural fittings was oak – it was readily available, durable, and able to withstand the vagaries of the English climate. Furniture and fittings were adorned with carved decoration. This collection of oak carvings come from both secular and ecclesiastical furniture, and will be included in the Country House Sale on 8th & 9th September.
