Art in the Cafe: Emily Stirk

1st March - 30th April

Emily is a British Contemporary Artist living in North Yorkshire. She works from her home studio with views of the garden and countryside that inspire her art. Influenced by the natural world that surrounds her, Emily grows many of the flowers featured in her paintings.

The series of works ‘Waiting for Spring’ on display here has mostly developed through observing Emily’s collection of dried flowers. She gathers and stores them throughout the year which allows her to continue her practice during the winter months. These works on paper were created in January and February; a bleak period when we anticipate the arrival of Spring and look forward to it on the horizon. Emily has chosen to include tulips as part of this group to afford a glimpse of the many shapes and colours that will unfold when Spring is here.

Emily is especially interested in creating texture in her work and does this by using a variety of mediums such as gouache, pastel and acrylic.
