Foden’s Band, originally known as the Foden Motor Works Band, is one of the most prestigious and historically significant brass bands in the world.  In the official rankings of 200 bands in the world, Foden’s is currently number one and is also 'Double National Champions of Great Britain'.  The band will be playing at The Garden Rooms at Tennants in Leyburn on Saturday 29th March for what is currently their only scheduled concert in Yorkshire this year.

Foden’s has been described as having ‘breathless brilliance’ and ‘incredible consistency’ and with a repertoire spanning all parts of the musical spectrum, experts say if you only see one brass band, Foden’s is the one to see.

The band has consistently remained at the forefront of competitive brass banding, winning the National Championship of Great Britain multiple times, as well as claiming victories at prestigious contests such as the British Open and the Brass in Concert Championship. The band’s high musical standards, innovative programming, and commitment to excellence have cemented its reputation.

Foden’s was founded in Cheshire in1900 by employees of Foden, a company specializing in steam wagon manufacturing.  It gained prominence in the early 20th century, particularly under the leadership of legendary conductor Fred Mortimer. Over the decades, Foden’s has developed into a dominant force in the brass band world, winning numerous national and international competitions.

Beyond competition, Foden’s has also contributed significantly to the brass band movement through education, recordings, and outreach programs. The band performs across the UK and internationally, bringing brass band music to wider audiences and remains a symbol of tradition, excellence, and innovation in the brass band world.
