Talk with Specialists - How Victorian Living Influenced Jewellery
Thursday 13th March
How Victorian living influenced jewellery: an exploration of design and techniques in jewellery manufacture from the early 1800s, and the impact into the 20th century
The Victorian era of jewellery design is celebrated as a time of rapid innovation; evolving through Romantic, Mourning and Aesthetic periods and heavily influenced by Queen Victoria’s reign. It is noted for its exceptional craftsmanship, intricate designs, historical significance, and rarity, with many pieces being made with high-quality materials during a time of great prosperity.
Join Tennants’ Jewellery Specialists Jessica Fall and Sarah Hardy to find out more about why Victorian jewellery remains popular today, offering as it does insights into the values, artistic trends and innovations in metalwork and gemstone use. The talk will include their personal highlights from past sales at Tennants including the works of iconic designers such as Giuliano and Castellani.
The day also includes an optional behind the scenes tour of Tennants, offering the chance to meet the specialists, find out some of the secrets of the salerooms and hear more about how Tennants brings together over 80 live auctions every year.
The talk has been planned to coincide with the public viewing of the Fine Jewellery, Watches and Silver Sale, The Spring Fine Sale and The British, European and Sporting Art Sale, all of which will be going under the hammer on Saturday 15th March. The viewing for these sales is daily from Sunday 9th March – Friday 14th March 11am-4pm and morning of the sale from 8am. After lunch, guests for the talk are welcome to browse the sales as well as visit the galleries and exhibitions, all of which are free to enter.
